Cochran Shoals, Chattahoochee River National River and Recreation Area, Atlanta Georgia.

The next place we visited on our trip to Atlanta was the Chattahoochee National River and Recreation Area entering at Cochran Shoals.

There is an entrance fee into the park although my brother already had a yearly pass. Cochran Shoals is the largest unit of this linear park containing 18 unconnected sites along 48 miles of the river from Atlanta to Sandy Springs Georgia.

Cochran Shoals is also where a great majority of the Union troops crossed the Chattahoochee the last natural obstacle before Atlanta.

The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area was created in 1978 by President Jimmy Carter.

At Cochran Shoals there are over three miles of trails.

We walked up to the shoals.

Near here the area widens to more than the river trail. There is a swampy area with a nice boardwalk.

We walked out the boardwalk for a while but even at this early date the mosquitoes were numerous, so we headed back. I wish I would have had more time to explore this area! The Chattahoochee was a beautiful river.
